Not only have too many children drowned in unprotected ponds, but the long-term effects of permanently brain damaged children are also most distressing. The SafaDeck pond safety system will guard against these tragedies meaning you can now retain your pond, whilst keeping your children safe. You will also benefit by helping protect pets from accidents and koi from heron attack. After years of research and  £200,000 in set up costs, The ‘SafaDeck’ pond grid system was launched in the U.K. in 2001. Since then, we've made approaching 2000 ponds safe - this means thousands of children can play happily in their gardens, safe in the knowledge that their water feature doesn't present the danger it once did. Of course most children in the ‘at risk’ category don't understand the danger at all.  Unfortunately many parents haven’t grasped the danger either…………. ‘It won't happen to us.’ ‘We look after our kids properly.’ ‘Our pond's not that deep.’ ‘Our kids don't go near the pond.’ The problem is that children do drown in pond accidents all the time. Since 1992, in the UK alone, approximately 130 children under 5 have drowned in pond accidents. That's 130 children who'd be alive today if the SafaDeck pond guard had been fitted to those ponds! You’re on this site so that means you care about protecting your children - let’s look how!  HOW SAFADECK POND SAFETY SYSTEM WORKS The SafaDeck pond cover comprises strong black plastic grid panels (59cm x 49cm) which are clipped into place on black aluminium beams. The beams themselves are suspended into the pond on strong but discreet support line, which extends through each beam and which is anchored to the outside of the pond. Different fixings enable the support line to be safely secured to any type of pond edge. The beams and grid panels can be easily cut to shape and extra components are available to protect pond liners from any cut sections. Grids can be removed from the pond by detaching the childproof retaining clips. This means that access is gained into the pond without having to remove the whole structure. Also part of the design are the support legs for extra strength. These legs can be placed anywhere under the support beams and rest on coned feet to avoid damage to the liner. The legs can be easily cut to length to fit to the required depth. The grids, which can be placed either just below or just above the water surface, are lightweight and easy to cut,  but are incredibly strong. Triangular holes within each grid are designed to allow most plants and fish to exist normally, whilst at the same time preventing a child’s head penetrating the water. All components are UV-stable and have been tested to withstand the impact of the falling weight of an average 8 year old child. As you will see from some of the photographs on the site, the SafaDeck pond guard will normally support the weight of an adult. Because the SafaDeck  pond grid is a modular design, ponds of almost any size and shape can be protected. Raised ponds, sunken ponds, round, oval, square and kidney shaped ponds can each accommodate the SafaDeck pond safety system. We haven’t yet found a pond that can’t be satisfactorily protected!  We supply on a regular basis to many different types of customer. These include families with young children; primary schools; nurseries and playgroups; grandparents; foster parents; local authorities; people moving into new homes; Koi & pet enthusiasts, wishing to prevent Heron attacks etc. We also install the product throughout mainland UK and can arrange installations internationally. The beauty of the SafaDeck is that it can be placed above or below the pond’s water surface. It’s an important choice, and the decision needs to be made before installation. Above water The grid will be visible There will be no water near the child Below water Your pond’s appearance will be largely unaffected Any amount of water can present a danger to children - if the grid is placed 1cm below water, then the pond is as dangerous as an average puddle.
